Easy like a Saturday morning…

Do you ever find yourself in a situation where you can hear the soundtrack of your life/that moment playing loudly in your head as you experience something? This morning, mine was “Easy Like Sunday Morning”. It played as I watched my daughter sitting in a big comfy chair on our porch. The sunlight was dancing in her hair and softly kissing her cheek and nose. She was lost in a moment with our dog, Oscar. Happily enjoying the joy that comes from being in the present moment. She often reminds me of what it’s like to just be. I am grateful to her for that.

How will you experience present moment joy today?

Facebook friends come to life…

There are some people in life you are just meant to meet. This I know for sure. Today, I got to meet one from that unwritten list. Her name is Natalie McCray. I was already a fan of her stunningly beautiful work before we ever connected, so when she popped in my inbox I couldn’t wait to get to know her better. We conversed via Facebook for a little bit and I resonated with the things she was saying. So much so, that I felt like they could’ve come directly out of my mouth at any point in time. We met for breakfast and conversation. The conversation part spilled over into the lunch hour. Definitely longer than our waitress would’ve liked. Let’s just say she was happy to see us go. But that isn’t the part that matters.

Natalie is what I call a Renaissance woman. She has talent oozing out of every pore in her body. She is a graphic designer, an illustrator, a stylist, a clothing designer, a painter, and a photographer (just to name a few). She can do it all.
When it comes to creating, she is a free spirit. She works from her heart. She allows her vision to take form without the outside interference of her mind. She listens to her inner voice. I love that about her. So I thought I would feature some of her work here today so that you could come to love her too. Enjoy!

Seeing with new eyes

On a day to day basis, my general photographic focus is on people. I LOVE people. They are my passion. So when I’m traveling, I always dedicate a day to exploring the interesting features of the city I am in. I do this as a way to stretch outside of my comfort zone a bit and discover the beauty that exists in other subjects. I focus on color and texture and patterns. I am drawn to interesting typography and signs. I love weathered walls and doors. I like numbers. I enjoy uncovering the subtleties that make that city unique. The images I am featuring today are from a trip to Austin, Texas. Austin likes to identify itself as weird. I saw it as a gem. A goldmine of uniqueness, tightly wrapped up in an oven bag. This day of exploration had the heat index hovering around 115 or so. OUCH. Who would’ve thought Florida could be considered cool in comparison. I ducked in and out of shadows, trying to find some relief in between moments of inspiration for all of the wonderful things I saw.

How do you take in a new city? Do you see it with new eyes and soak in all of its tasty juices? Are you inspired? What is your favorite city?

I love smiling. It’s my favorite.

As the year rounds out into our final stretch, I find myself happy and grateful for all of the change that has come my way.
My business is doing well. My daughter is growing up fast, and I truly love to watch her take each new step on her way to the teen years.
Life is good. So in honor of all this goodness, I thought I would reveal a bit about myself here.

1. I love to laugh and I smile all the time. Sometimes my cheeks hurt because of it, but it just makes me smile more.
2. I believe hugs are the best form of non-verbal communication.
3. My perfect vacation involves journeying to a new place and unlocking all of the mysteries and charm that have existed there for centuries and have been waiting for me to come find them. Embarking on that soon!
4. I live in a state of organized chaos when it comes to my office desk. I like to make mountains out of my piles until I get around to tackling them.
5. When I see something beautiful, I always speak whatever is on my mind. Why keep all that goodness inside? After all, love is meant to be shared!
6. I prefer writing my appointments and shoot dates on a physical calendar, rather than inputting it electronically. It just feels better to see it in writing.
7. My childhood dream was to be a movie star. I was even voted “Most Likely to Become a Starving Actress” in my senior year. I never actually found out what that meant for sure, but I like to think it is a compliment to my dedication!
8. I make the best egg sandwiches on the planet. Just ask my gorgeous eleven year old daughter!
9. Speaking of my daughter, I am insanely in love with that girl. She is the coolest kid I know.
10. I am a softy for a good love story. Especially when it comes to the real life love stories that play out in each wedding I shoot!
11. Eleven is my lucky number. Whenever I happen to look at the clock at 11:11, I know that everything is perfect in that moment.
12. I love meeting new people and discovering all of the little things that make them tick.
13. I am a perfectionist, but I believe that helps me in my art. I never want to put out lackluster photos, no matter what I am shooting. So… this means I spend a lot of time working on photos AFTER every shoot!
14. I can tear up a dance floor and do so every chance I get. I love getting lost in the music and allowing every thing to melt away, if only for a few hours.
15. My first kiss happened in 7th grade behind the portables at school. That boy’s name was Ozzie (and no, he was not a head banger).
16. I’ve noticed that people can’t help but be sucked in by my happiness. It’s contagious!
17. I am a good friend to all of the people in my life. I love each and every one of them and wish that magic and wonder would follow them every where they choose to go.
18. I have the most amazing boyfriend/cheerleader/supporter/encourager/snuggler/lover/friend.
19. I get wild ideas sometimes and see pictures in every moment.
20. I have had a few nicknames in my life. Some of them from childhood, some of them from adulthood. A sampling of them: Sunshine, Hollywood, Be-Bop, and Perky.
21. I strive to make photos that I like to look at, because I love looking at beautiful things as often as possible.

Go forth and spread love to all.

Do you feel beautiful?

I had a photo shoot this morning. One for my Evocative::Intimate Photography brand. I had been talking to this client for a few weeks about the shoot, so she gave me the scoop on the reason for it. She is IN LOVE. She believes with every fiber of her being that this man is ‘the one’, and after losing her husband of 20+ years, that’s saying a lot. As a symbol of her growing affection, she is mailing him an Evocative book for Christmas. Such a sweet and terrifying gift to give someone you are interested in. If any of you out there have done a sexy shoot, you know it takes courage. Lots of it! Sometimes topped off with a hearty portion of wine, or a dash of valium.

But aside from all of that, what struck me the most about this woman is that she feels beautiful. She has shed 50 pounds and in the process has rediscovered herself. So she went out and purchased some super sexy lingerie and decided to do this shoot for him, but also for herself. She is proud of her accomplishments so far and knows that her transformation isn’t complete yet, but she feels good. She feels beautiful.
Self love and acceptance are two of the most beautiful gifts we can give ourselves. It is sometimes difficult to do so with 100% certainty because we are always comparing what we’ve got to what everyone else has. But if you just love yourself and have gratitude for everything that makes you you, life becomes a sweet journey that you can’t help but smile at.

Love Love Love,

Miss T
